Call for Submissions: Ambient Online Compilation 6

The following post is found on our forum: http://www.ambientonline.org Not a member? Sign up today!

The Ambient Online Compilation Series

Welcome to our submissions call in the latest entry of the AO Compilation album series. Why are we doing this? It's simple. Ambient Online is a user supported forum here for the single purpose of keeping our ambient home on the internet alive. We run minimal ad space and ask our users to create music for our "compilation albums" which have become a highlight and a staple of our site. We do this to raise money to keep the site moving forward and up and running. Our compilations are a great way to get your music out there and will be heard by many fans all over the world. Will you participate? This is your opportunity.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

1) You will need to be a registered member of the Ambient Online Forums--we'd love to get to know you!
2) Each member may submit up to 2 individual tracks, as well as 2 collaborative tracks with other members. Collaborations are encouraged!
3) This will be a digital release so it's total length is not an issue, but due to the enthusiastic response from our membership please try to limit tracks to less than 25 minutes each.
4) New, unreleased tracks are preferred. We are developing an exclusive collection available only from Ambient Online.
5) Tracks should be unmastered (leaving headroom between -3dB and -9dB). Basically just don't make it really loud and in the red on the meters.
6) When submitting your track(s) please use .wav, .aif, or flac file format.
7) title your file in the following format: artistname_songtitle. For example, Reverb Fred sends in a .wav called "Ambient Beard" : reverbfred_ambientbeard.wav
8) Your submissions will be used to promote and help keep Ambient Online up and running. Sales of the compilation go directly to the hosting and maintenance of the site.
9) Participants retain their rights to release submitted tracks in future - if you want to publish your submitted track some day somewhere, you can.
10) Have fun and don't worry. No matter your experience level or studio size. We are a supportive and positive community and are here to share and exchange ideas. Participation in events like the Ambient Online Compilations promote building bonds within our community.

Ambient Music Production: Ambient Music in Ableton Live Part 1

From my Twitch stream, this video shows one of the ways I create ambient music inside of Ableton Live. Many different techniques are presented; From the initial ambient pads subtle beats and underlying rhythms of the track using Numerology, to the soaring leads and deep kicks that become the full sound. In the future, I'll be running a series of tutorials going in detail with the methods of my madness. In the meantime, enjoy the video!

Software used:

Omnisphere 2 - Spectrasonics
Diva - U-he
Numerology 4 - Five12
Ableton Live - Ableton
Iris 2 - Izotope

Cheers,
-S1gns

Ambient Archives: "Aphelion" from "Language of the Ancients"

The opening track that started it all... "Aphelion" from 2013's "Language of the Ancients."

What I love about this track is how it set the mood for the entire album. Produced late in the development cycle for the album, I knew that as soon as this track was finished that it had to be the first track on the record.

Opening with a thick suite of pads from the now absorbed "Camel Audio - Alchemy" the rumble of some technical glitches begins to emerge that helped define the record.

The track was produced with a combination of intricate sequencing in Numerology and live performance in real time. After the opening crash at :48 the elements emerge. A deep bass coming from Alchemy, a lead sequence coming from Numerology going into an instance of U-he Diva, and a lead symphonic pad played live and looped.

The breakdown is one of my favorite parts of the track. Removing many of the core elements to reveal even greater detail. It's something I do often in my tracks because I love to layer and then strip away those layers to allow the listener to focus their attention.

What I love most about revisiting tracks is hearing them again, as if for the first time.

Cheers,
-S1gns

Welcome to S1gns Of L1fe

My name is Chris Bryant, aka S1gns Of L1fe the ambient and psybient music producer from the Bay Area in California. I'm one half of the band Ascendant and co-owner of Synphaera Records. I also own a forum for ambient music, Ambient Online, and host a bi-weekly podcast, The Ambient Online Podcast.

The purpose of this blog is to provide some insight into my world. I'll be sharing with you the latest from the S1gns Of L1fe, Ascendant, Synphaera Records, and Ambient Online universe as well as some tips and tricks that I use for producing ambient music. I hope that you, the reader, will be able to keep up with the latest news, learn something new, and follow along this adventure with me.

I believe in giving back to the ambient music community, which is part of the reason why I do what I do. Through my own musical endeavors, I've met so many amazing people and made so many connections. It's through these relationships with other musicians, producers, developers and fans that I'm able to provide the content that I do.

Music is a universal language we all speak. My own musical path has been an unforgettable journey. Let's go on this journey together.

Cheers,
-S1gns
